Paul Scriven with local residents campaigning against the Tesco application
Commenting on the news that the West and North Planning Board has decided to turn down the application for a Tesco store at Commonside, Cllr Paul Scriven said:
"I would like to thank local residents and traders for fighting this application. It could have been a death knell to the local shopping centre. Fortunately, this is a case of 'No-Go Tesco.'
"Whilst I am not anti-Tesco, I am very much against a new Tesco store on this site. Local people were rightly concerned about this making a busy road junction even more dangerous.
"It would also have created noise, nuisance and parking problems for local residents which would have been unbearable."
Paul had campaigned with local residents against the application for the new store and had personally objected to it as a local councillor.
