Climate campaigners in Sheffield are celebrating after Liberal Democrats on the Council signed up to the 10:10 campaign to cut carbon emissions by 10% during 2010.
But Sheffield Labour Party's position on climate change is in disarray after Labour councillors voted against the 10:10 pledge.
Councillor Paul Scriven, Liberal Democrat Prospective MP for Sheffield Central, was not impressed at Labour's decision.
"My opponent Paul Blomfield claimed on his leaflets that he was signing up to the 10:10 campaign.
"Now he has been abandoned by all five Labour MPs and his colleagues on the council.
"This speaks volumes about what Labour politicians will say and do to get elected and what they actually do when they're in power.
"Thanks to the Liberal Democrats, we can now instruct this Council to find ways to cut its CO2 emissions by 10% by the end of 2010. That is a very good thing."
