Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg, and Paul Scriven, Prospective Lib Dem MP for Sheffield Central, have visited Sheffield's Kelham Island Tavern to congratulate staff on historic back-to-back wins in CAMRA's National Pub of the Year awards.
The Sheffield pub is the only establishment to have won the award twice - let alone in consecutive years.
Nick Clegg said:
"I'm so proud that a Sheffield pub is leading the way like this.
"In what has been a tough period for a lot of businesses including pubs, Sheffield's real ale brewers and publicans have raked in the awards. Winning Champion Beer of Britain and National Pub of the Year over the last decade is a something the whole city can be proud of.
"This historic award is made even more remarkable by the fact that the whole pub was completely flooded out less than three years ago. Trevor and Lewis and their staff have done a truly remarkable job."
Paul Scriven said:
"What a wonderful Sheffield success story Kelham Island Tavern is. From being bought as a disused shell in 2001 the owners have turned it into a beautiful local pub at the heart of a thriving community."
"I hope that when the Liberal Democrat conference comes to Sheffield next year, some of my colleagues from across the UK come and see what a tremendous selection of pubs we have on our Real Ale Trail."
"This latest award puts Sheffield on the map as the real ale capital of Britain and I'm determined that everyone knows it!"
