Paul Scriven takes part in community clean-up as part of 'Big Spring Clean'
Paul Scriven, the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Sheffield Central, has shown that he is not just satisfied with pledging to clean up politics in Westminster, he is also committed to cleaning up Sheffield quite literally!
As part of the Lib Dem Sheffield City Council 2010 'Big Spring Clean' campaign, Paul and the local Lib Dem team organised a successful community clean up on Parker's Lane Green in Broomhill yesterday.
Paul said:
"I believe that local people want an MP that not only represents them on the big issues, such as making the tax system fairer and cleaning up politics, but also cares about the bread and butter issues such as keeping our streets clean."
"As the Leader of Council I know only too well how important these kind of issues are to people across Sheffield. It is events organised by local Liberal Democrats, such as the 'Big Spring Clean' campaign, that demonstrate our passion for the community. I have a great record of taking direct action on everyday concerns and as a local MP for Sheffield Central I would ensure that continues."
The Sheffield 'Big Spring Clean' event is a Liberal Democrat initiative on Sheffield City Council. Last year's event was a great success with over 2000 people from nearly 100 different groups and organisations joining with the Council to clean up their local neighbourhood. They cleared thousands of sacks of litter from local parks and green spaces.
This year Lib Dems want the event to be even bigger and better.
Paul added: "The Big Spring Clean event is a Sheffield Liberal Democrat manifesto pledge and last year it proved to be hugely popular. We know that making sure our local streets are clean is a real priority for local people; that's why we are so keen to see the Big Spring Clean event go from strength to strength."
