Paul Scriven, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Sheffield Central has spoken out today against planned government cuts to three adult learning centres in Sheffield Central, which could force them to cease adult education.
The three adult education centres under threat are Bannerdale Centre, Mount Pleasant and the Walkley Centre.
Paul Scriven said:
"At a time of economic down-turn, for the Government to be slashing funding for Adult learners is a national disgrace. This will have a devastating effect on many people who are trying to improve their lot through education. I know this will have not been an easy decision for our local college, but they have been forced due to Government cuts to stop adult learning in these three centres.
"All these three centres, which are in the Sheffield Central Constituency, have been taken for granted by Labour for too long.
This is just the latest example of how Labour are cutting services from the most disadvantaged in our City and show no commitment to fairness."
Paul Scriven has launched a online petition against the cuts. You can sign the petition at http://www.paulscriven.org.uk/petitions/.
