Paul Scriven, the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Sheffield Central, has opened much-needed, new playground equipment at Dorset St in Broomhall this week.
The improvements were achieved through the hard work of local residents and was supported by the Liberal Democrat Sheffield City Council as part of their £2m plan to create and improve a total of 23 playgrounds across Sheffield.
Paul, who is also Liberal Democrat leader of the Council, said: "It is an honour to be invited here today by local residents who have campaigned so hard for this new equipment. I'm very proud to be here."
"It's great to see so many local young people who couldn't wait to use the fantastic new play equipment. It's so important that we provide our children and families with safe and attractive to play and enjoy themselves."
Other sites that have seen improvements included in phase one include Beaver Hill, Rolling Acres, Richmond Park, Charnock Rec, Fox Hill, Millhouses, Hillsborough Park, Darnall, Phillimore, and Beechwood Road. Under the Lib Dem plans an additional 12 sites in phase two will be completed by April 2011.
Paul added:
"It's exciting to see the Lib Dem plan to create and improve 23 playgrounds swing into action. Communities right across Sheffield, many of whom had been ignored under Labour, have brand new state of the art play facilities in their local area or can look forward to seeing them soon."
