Government officials have turned down Sheffield's bid for work on two key areas of the City under threat from flooding. Paul Scriven, Lib Dem Parliamentary spokesperson for Sheffield Central and the leader of Sheffield City Council is now demanding that Sheffield gets its fair share of investment to prevent flooding.

The local Burmese community and Paul Scriven have thanked the people of Sheffield for generously donating to help those affected by the Burma Cyclone disaster. Over the weekend collections were held in three locations. Outside the Town Hall, on the Moor and at the Peace Gardens. Local people generously donated £2,563 - all going direct to help those ht by the cyclone in Burma. The Burmese Karen Community were supported by local Paul Scriven.

Labour Government net £525m from taxpayers in wake of floods

Paul Scriven, Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson for Sheffield Central, is protesting after it was revealed the Government made over half a billion pounds from the floods that devastated Sheffield and other parts of the UK. This week the 'Taxpayers Alliance' revealed that the Treasury made an extra £525m from taxpayers through VAT for work carried out to rebuild property damaged by the flooding in the summer.

Local Liberal Democrats have taken their campaign to save Sheffield Post Office's to Number 10 Downing Street. Under the Labour Government plan up to 2,500 Post Offices will close nationally, with Sheffield set to find out which of it's local branches are earmarked for closure in August. Cllr Paul Scriven, Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson for Sheffield Central, traveled down to London to help present a national petition against Labour's planned closures. Paul has been leading the campaign to save Post Offices in Sheffield.

Figures uncovered by the Liberal Democrats in Parliament show that over the past decade, the number of vehicles on roads in South Yorkshire have increased by 16%. It means that congestion on local roads has gone up since Labour came to power in 1997, despite promises to reduce the number of people relying on cars to get about.

Liberal Democrats in Sheffield have backed calls to the government to abandon plans to make people carry identity cards. Leading the call locally is Cllr. Paul Scriven Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Sheffield Central. He decided to voice his concerns after Liberal Democrat Leader and Sheffield MP Nick Clegg published figures showing that 37 million pieces of personal information on UK citizens were lost in 2007, mostly by the Government.

Liberal Democrats on Sheffield City Council have successfully proposed that a plastic bag amnesty takes place in Sheffield. In a bid to raise awareness of the damage plastic bags do to the environment, the event will see free 'bags for life' being distributed to local shoppers in return for plastic bags that are handed in.

Paul calls for flood warning system for Sheffield

It has been revealed that Sheffield still does not have a warning system to alert people about an impending flood. Baroness Young, chief executive of the Environment Agency, told a Commons select committee there is currently no flood warning system for the city. Door shut on Tesco plan by local residents and Paul

Controversial plans for a new convenience store in Walkley have been thrown out by councillors as "a Tesco too far." The supermarket giant's proposals for a store on the corner of Springvale Road and Howard Road led to more than 1,000 complaints, including local campaigner Paul Scriven, that there wouldn't be enough parking and that pedestrians might be put at risk by cars driving in and out. Tesco was seeking permission to build a single-storey store with four off-street parking spaces and two cycle spaces.
