Paul Scriven for Sheffield Central

Paul's Priorities

I am passionate about improving Sheffield and ensuring all the people of Sheffield Central have maximum opportunities.

The Environment

Paul Scriven at Sheffield Winter Gardens

I have been active in Sheffield in getting the council to improve its record on the environment. The 45% recycling target the council has was pushed through by the Lib Dems during my leadership.

I have also been able to ensure as local Lib Dems we have a green thread running through our local policies. I have been active in promoting local farmers markets so to reduce damaging "food miles".

At a national level I voted for the "green tax switch" at conference and have been active in pushing for better public transport and more regulation of bus services.

Investing in the Future

Young people are our future; I care deeply about investing in good local education services. My background has taught me well the value and importance of Education.

Right from early years, smaller class sizes, a better and broader curriculum. Not forgetting higher education based on ability not affordability!

Good Public Services

Paul Scriven at the Children's Hospital

I will work to ensure we have high quality and well resourced public services in Sheffield Central, providing for local needs and under local accountable control. Devolution and the ability of local people to hold to account those who provide services are essential.

I will continue to stand up and campaign against the cuts to our local NHS.

Social Justice

I have worked my way up and want to ensure the ladder of opportunity is there for all. I will work to reach out and work with people of different backgrounds in Sheffield Central explaining why Lib Dem policies are central to a fairer and freer society. Those on the Manor as well as the ethnic minority communities need a Lib Dem MP working for and with them - providing opportunities for all, working for a fairer society where individuals are free to maximise thier potential.

Enterprise and Employment

Sheffield is not performing to its maximum potential in terms of enterprise and job creation. I will ensure that the Liberal Democrat policies for setting business free creating a skilled workforce and more opportunities for enterprise are pursued for local people.

International Cooperation

I am deeply committed to internationalism and know that on many of the major issues flags.jpgfacing us today, we can only move forward through multilateral agreement, be it on fair trade, the environment or the issue of world security and the Illegal War in Iraq. I want to speak up for the people of Sheffield Central on these issues and work both within the constituency and on a wider stage for unity not division and isolation.
